The New York Institute of Photography worked with NYIP Adventures to develop the curriculum for our travel photography workshops.  The following information is on some of the members of the team behind the courses:

Peter Guttman is a photographer, writer, author, app creator, fine artist, television personality, lecturer and adventurer who has traveled on assignment through all seven continents covering more than 220 countries. Author of eight hardcover books, he's the recipient of the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Exploration and Storytelling, has three times won the Lowell Thomas Travel Journalist of the Year Award, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the New York Travel Writers Society and a George Eastman Power of the Image Award, cited as one of "20 of the World's Most Influential Photographers”

Following her studies in drawing and painting, Britt became strongly attracted to the storytelling and immediate qualities she found in photography. Film photography held her attention further as it enhanced the timelessness, purity, tangibility and aesthetics of photography. Britt travels the globe with her photography but always returns home to the Wasatch Mountains where she lives with her husband and two children.

Timeless and emotive imagery

Growing up with the rise of social media and digital techniques enabled Lara to see the bigger picture of an international industry. After graduating college she made the move to London, where she naturally felt the transition to fashion photography. A couple of years later - she embarked on her first trip to New York and never looked back.

Laura enjoys creating timeless and emotive imagery.  She is inspired by feminine strength, unique beauty and classic style.

Clients include Air France, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Sachin & Babi, The Mayfair Hotel, Lush, Huffington Post, Marie Claire and many more. Laura is the author of Fashion Photography 101.

Robyn Selman brings 25 years of experience in commercial, stock and editorial photography. As director of photography at Corbis and current director of photography at Forbes Media, Robyn understands both the vital financial aspects of photography as a career or as a passion and the creative and technical challenges involved in the creation of highly successful images.
Robyn has created high-end multi-media assets for the world’s leading brands and has produced dozens of shoots in Africa, Southeast Asia, South America, Latin America, and the US.

Sports specialist

Photographer Tim Pannell has enjoyed a non-stop career in advertising and stock photography. Tim contributes to curriculum by sharing his experience in sports, portrait and lifestyle shooting. Tim'’s clients include Adidas, Aetna, AT&T, Citibank, Costco, Gatorade, Reebok, McDonald’s, Coca-Cola and Wells Fargo.

Jamel Toppin is a New York based photographer.  His interest in photography began as a teenager shooting lizards in the backyard in his native country of Trinidad and Tobago, when he was given his first camera at the age of fifteen. Although his work comprises a wide variety of subject matter, he specializes in the field of portraiture.  His list of clients reads like a who’s who list of sports, music and television celebrities including The Weekend, Kevin Hart, Jessica Alba, Katy Perry, Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Van Diesel, Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift, Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, Kathy Ireland, Olivia Wilde, Halsey, Jason Derulo, Michael Phelps, Donald Trump and many, many more.

Jeffrey Gunthart

As a commercial photographer Jeffrey’s clients ranged from Annie Leibovitz to Ralph Lauren, Vanity Fair and Victoria's Secret.  Most recently he has created and taught a variety of classes at Ringling College of Art & Design’s Longboat Key Center campus.

Young travel photographer of the year

Chase Guttman is an award-winning travel photographer, drone photography expert, author, writer, lecturer and, with over 50,000 engaged followers, a social media influencer. Three-time recipient and first American to win Young Travel Photographer of the Year, Guttman was named a World’s Top Travel Photographer by Condé Nast Traveler, a Rising Star by Instagram and won the 2017 Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Storytelling and Exploration—a lifetime achievement level honor. His recent book, The Handbook of Drone Photography, was one of the first written on the topic and has received critical acclaim.

During his travels to five continents, all 50 U.S. states, and 70 countries, he’s ridden ostriches, dove with great white sharks and heli-hiked, sleeping in ice hotels and on swamp platforms and consuming everything from whale blubber to a drink garnished with a severed human toe along the way.
